
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - State Rep. Robert Brawley is stepping down as chairman of the House Finance Committee. Brawley says he's unhappy with decisions of the Republican-led legislature and what he called mistreatment from Speaker Thom Tillis.
RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) - Federal regulators are investigating after a nuclear power plant outside North Carolina's capital city was forced to shut down last week. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says two specialists will look into the issue. The problem was uncovered when plant operators at the Duke Energy-owned plant took a second look at year-old data.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Opponents of a measure that would repeal North Carolina's Racial Justice Act say death penalty cases shouldn't be rushed because a person's life is on the line. The Senate bill was discussed today in a House judiciary committee. No committee vote was taken. The bill earlier cleared the Senate last month along party lines.
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - More than a year after Spc. Kelli Bordeaux disappeared, the U.S. Army has officially declared her dead. Brig. Gen. David K. MacEwen declared the 23-year-old soldier deceased as of May 20. The decision will allow her family to receive military death benefits. Bordeau was last seen leaving a bar near the base.
