RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - More than 360,000 customers remain without power as the Piedmont of North Carolina thaws out from a late winter storm. Duke Energy reported 282,000 of its customers were without power yesterday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Duke Energy's CEO says while the company and its shareholders will pay to clean up a coal ash spill in the Dan River, its customers likely will shoulder the costs of closing the rest of the utility's coal ash ponds across North Carolina. Duke has until March 15 to give Gov. Pat McCrory details about how it will pay for taking care of its 32 ash ponds.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Qualified North Carolina military veterans may now carry the designation of veteran on their driver licenses and identification cards. With passage of a law by the General Assembly, veterans who have been honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces who present their DD-214 discharge form can apply at a driver license office for the new designation.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A private security guard at a Raleigh department store already facing an extortion charge has been arrested a second time in connection with two shoplifting incidents. Raleigh police say 37-year-old Modou Thomas was arrested on Feb. 28 and again Thursday.
