Did you know diabetes affects your eyes?
Diabetes affects your eyes. Diabetics are at risk of vision loss due to a disease called diabetic retinopathy. Using recent technological advances and by partnering with Southern Eye Associates, North Hills Medical Center has recently started performing an eye scan to detect diabetic retinopathy using a new generation retinal camera that does not require dilation of the patient's eyes. Southern Eye Associates, a local ophthalmologist practice trained in the detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy, will analyze the retinal image via an internet link. The eye scan is quick and painless with the test results being available within 24 hours. The eye scan is not a substitution for regular eye exams, but it is an important procedure for diabetic patients that do not regularly see an ophthalmologist. |
