The Great American Total Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017, the first total solar eclipse to move across the contiguous United States since 1979 will occur! The path will move from northwest to southeast across the country, casting regions in its path into total darkness for a few minutes.

South Carolina is one of 14 states that will be in the "path of totality" for the eclipse, drawing thousands of people to see the rare phenomenon. The next total solar eclipse to cross part of the U.S. is expected in 2024.
