NCAA Game Summary - Florida State At Miami-Florida

(Sports Network) - Antone Smith ran for 91 yards and scored a career-high four touchdowns to lead the Florida State Seminoles to a 41-39 victory over the Miami-Florida Hurricanes in an ACC showdown at Dolphins Stadium.

Christian Ponder completed just 14-of-31 pass attempts for 159 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Florida State (4-1, 1-1 ACC), but the signal-caller gained 144 yards on 19 carries in the win. The Seminoles have now won two straight games following a 12-3 loss to Wake Forest.

Robert Marve converted on a mere 17-of-40 tosses for 123 yards and two costly interceptions in the loss for (2-3, 0-2) Miami. Travis Benjamin grabbed three passes for 71 yards and a score, as the Hurricanes dropped their second game in a row. Benjamin also scored on an 18-yard run.

Smith gave Florida State a 7-0 lead midway through the first period on a two- yard touchdown run.

Smith increased the Seminoles advantage early in the second period with a 19- yard scoring scamper.

The Seminoles took a 21-0 lead late in the frame, as Ponder found Greg Carr for a 15-yard scoring strike.

Florida State added a 53-yard field goal from Graham Gano to extend its lead with just over a minute remaining in the half.

The Hurricanes finally got on the board as time expired in the half with a 28-yard kick from Matt Bosher.

Benjamin cut the Seminoles lead to 24-10 with an 18-yard run early in the third period.

Smith found the end zone yet again minutes later with a five-yard run to extend the Florida State lead to 31-10.

Bosher connected on a 29-yard field goal midway through the frame.

Miami notched a safety just minutes later, and the Hurricanes trailed, 31-15.

A 51-yard pass from Graig Cooper to Benjamin less than a minute later brought Miami to 31-22.

A 35-yard field goal from Gano in the closing seconds of the frame added to the Florida State lead, 34-22.

Sean Spence returned an interception seven yards for a score early in the final period of play to pull the Hurricanes to within five.

A 24-yard field goal from Bosher midway through the frame cut the Florida State lead to 34-32.

Smith, however, rumbled into the endzone for the fourth time following a 20- yard run late in the period to keep the Seminoles ahead, 41-32.

A five-yard run from Jason Fox pulled the Hurricanes to within two with just 14 seconds remaining in the contest, but it wasn't enough in the 41-39 setback.

Florida State rolled up 281 yards on the ground, as it possessed the ball for nearly 40 minutes of the contest.
