South Carolina Suspends Davis, Thomas

POSTED: 3:31 pm EST March 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - South Carolina tailback Mike Davis and defensive back Carlos Thomas were suspended for violations of team rules, the school announced on Tuesday.

According to Columbia's newspaper, The State, head coach Steve Spurrier said Davis will sit for one game next season due to class attendance issues, though which game is uncertain.

Davis, who is entering his senior season, rushed for 1,658 yards in his first three years and is expected to succeed Cory Boyd as the starter in 2008. The Gamecocks' opener is August 28 against North Carolina State.

In addition, Thomas has been suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules and behavior. The 5-foot-11, 192-pounder racked up 17 tackles in seven starts last year.
