The Donald Classes Up 'WrestleMania 23' Card

Listen up!

Class is in session.

It's lecture time this week, and Donald Trump is center stage.

I think it's a stroke of genius that he's on board to be part of "WrestleMania 23." Trump takes on Vince McMahon in a "hair versus hair" match in Detroit, but neither blowhard will be in the ring.

Instead, they'll dispatch "representatives" to do their bidding. Vince has picked the monster heel Umaga (which I'm sure is subject to change), but Trump has yet to pick his wrestler. I'm hoping for The Great Khali myself. If so, the actual wrestling match will be horrible, but at least it'll be over quick. After all, what we're buying here isn't the match, but the aftermath.

If Vince's guy loses, Mr. McMahon has to shave his head. If Trump's guy loses, The Donald sits in the barber's chair. Kids, it's great theater, because you know Trump's guy won't lose, and Vince will end up losing his locks.

At first I thought this was a stupid idea because I was getting so sick of seeing Trump's face in the media day after day. To have him on WWE TV for a month leading up to the match would send me over the edge. But that's the real beauty of this angle. It takes Trump, who by many accounts is a horse's rear end, and casts him in the babyface role. So, in effect, I now like my buddy Donny -- and I can't wait for him to get the best of VKM on April 1.

I'm also wondering exactly who Trump will pick. As I mentioned, Khali is a possibility, but Hulk Hogan is also on the sidelines, not doing anything. That would be good for a few yuks. Trump could also go small and perhaps draft Rey Mysterio to be his "representative." It's always great when David beats Goliath in these matches.

As for celebrities at "WrestleMania," Trump may rival Mike Tyson's appearance a few years back when he scrapped with Stone Cold Steve Austin. I think the difference here is that Trump is still at the peak of his powers doing what he does in real life. Tyson by that time may have already gone crazy.

There's also the camp that contends this mega-event doesn't need celebrities, because they ultimately take time away from the boys in the locker room. In some respects, that's true. Lawrence Taylor versus Bam Bam Bigelow back in the day was a waste of time. Here, at least Trump isn't in tights. He's just an observer, not a competitor. But Vince has built it up so perfectly that it just might be the reason non-wrestling fans pay attention to what happens -- or even buy the show.

McMahon may need the help. With Triple H on the sidelines, and no real mega-stars in the lineup (Stone Cold, The Rock), "WrestleMania" buyrates could take a hit this year. Sure, you have John Cena taking on Shawn Michaels in one of the main events, but unless Michaels wins the WWE title, I'm not too excited about it. In the other championship match, it's Batista versus The Undertaker. Unless Undertaker wins that one, I'm bored with it. I'm just one guy, but at this point I say the Trump match trumps everything on the card so far.

Now scram!

Class is dismissed!
