"If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you." This is the state motto for Michigan, according to its official Web site. Michigan is a state that has everything you can hope for in a great vacation destination: including more than 11,000 inland lakes. In addition to the natural wonders offered by this state, you also will find great urban destinations and historical sites that make this part of the country truly a unique place to visit.

Harbour View Inn

One of the most famous attractions in the state of Michigan is Mackinac Island. This historical island was a critical trading destination for both Native Americans and early settlers in Michigan, according to Mackinac.com. The Harbour View Inn is an affordable alternative to the Grand Hotel, and it has attractions and accommodations that are just as unique and luxurious.

According to the Harbour View Inn Web site, this resort offers 65 rooms, great water views and luxurious accommodations. You can book a room in the Chateau LaFramboise, the Carriage House, and other interesting rooms. Prices start at around $85, depending on which part of the resort you want to stay in.

Residence Inn Holland

If you are interested in a truly unique vacation experience, then stay at the Residence Inn Holland. According to its Web site, the Residence Inn Holland offers suites with full kitchens, free parking and a free breakfast. This venue also is close to Holland tourist attractions such as the Dutch Village, Windmill Island and the Veldheers Wooden Shoe Factory and Tulip Farm. This is a Marriott property, so you know you will be in good hands.

The Homestead

This is a fabulous place to stay if you are interested in playing golf or just relaxing. According to its Web site, this resort is close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, the North Manitou Islands and several prominent shipwrecks. It also offers 350 acres of land to explore, and more than a mile of lake and river front.

In addition to great outdoor attractions, this resort also offers an on-site spa, fitness center, restaurant and several shopping opportunities. Whether you want to rent a room or a condo for your vacation, the Homestead will have what you are looking for.

Inn At Black Star Farms

If you're looking for a vacation experience instead of just a place to crash at the end of the day, consider the Inn at Black Star Farms. According to its Web site, it offers guests access to a winery, a working farm and a creamery. This means that when you stay here, you will have plenty of opportunities to taste freshly made dairy products and house wines. There are eight different rooms to choose from, as well as a sauna room and a sunning deck. You will also find a complimentary bottle of house wine waiting for you in your room when you arrive.
