SENECA, S.C. -- A Seneca plant announced the layoff 119 temporary workers because of a decrease in the demand for the product it produces.Covidien said that the layoffs will be effective on Wednesday.The company said that a reduction in demand for its SCD sleeves, a vascular therapy compression device, is anticipated, which led to the decrease in its workforce.Covidien said the decrease in the workforce will continue until the end of the company’s fiscal year, which is Sept. 30.The company said that the decrease in demand for its product is forecast to continue through 2010.
