CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. -- School officials said they have suspended four football coaches at Calhoun Falls High School after they were caught drinking on the field.“What were they thinking out there?” said sophomore Justin Gilchrist. “They were making a bad decision.”Officials said the coaches had just finished painting lines on the field on Thursday for the game on Friday night. To cool off, the coaches started drinking some beers.Although there were not any students around, the superintendent said that because they were on school grounds, they had to be suspended for the rest of the season.
“It was a stiff punishment, but that’s what it warranted, I think,” head coach Kenya Fouch said. “We try to teach our guys that there are consequences to the decisions you make. Even a bad decision can be made by really good people.”On Monday, the school’s softball coach, Ricky Holland Sr., resigned after one of his players accused him of sexually harassing her. He too has been suspended from coaching.Fouch said that even though this isn’t the attention he had hoped for his team, he is confident the students will be able to move past this quickly.
