SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. -- Parents in the Gilder Creek Farm community joined forces Wednesday night in an effort to protect their children. The meeting comes after a man tried, at least twice to kidnap children at a bus stop.“It’s for the safety of our children,” said Amer Ahmed, a parent who attended the meeting. “I don’t wish that on anybody else.”Parents gathered at the community’s clubhouse to come up with answers to the problem. They listened to detectives read over some safety tips, and also gave suggestions of their own.“(We talked about) how we can maybe have planned watches with the kids coming off the school bus,” said Ann McCaig, another parent who attended the meeting. “I think it would be really helpful.”Parents said they hope to make the bus stop unattractive for potential predators so it will be used as a stop for the bus driver.Detectives said children should always walk in groups in the neighborhood. If they are approached they should run to the closest safe place and get an adult they trust.Investigators describe the would-be kidnapper as an older white man who is balding. He was last seen driving a silver car.
