The body of a missing Union County High School cheerleader was found in the Broad River on Saturday, police said.

Marisha Jeter, 16, was reported missing by her family on Thursday night when she did not return from a trip to McDonald’s.

Police said Marisha’s body was found by art students taking photographs near the river around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Police said they are treating Marisha’s death as a homicide and have interviewed several people about her death.

Marisha’s father, Manning Jeter, said his daughter left to pick up food at McDonald’s around 9:30 p.m Thursday. When she did not return about 30 minutes later, Jeter said he tried to call Marisha’s cell phone, but never reached her.

A manager at the McDonald’s told FOX Carolina he remembers seeing Marisha at the drive through just before 10 p.m. Thursday. She was driving her pink Toyota Celica.

Police said they are still searching for Marisha’s car.

Marisha’s family said she was a cheerleader at Union County High School and president of her class.

Police asked anyone with information on this case to call the Union Public Safety Department immediately.
