Police arrested a husband and wife on Sunday in the death of a cheerleader whose body was found Saturday afternoon.

Police said 16-year-old Marisha Jeter was killed and her body dumped off a bridge over the Broad River on Thursday.

Marisha’s father, Manning Jeter, said his daughter went to pick up food at McDonald’s around 9:30 p.m. Thursday but never returned.

Police said after Marisha picked up food, 20-year-old Pernell Thompson and his wife, 19-year-old Yolanda Thompson, asked her to meet them near a Union YMCA.

Police said the couple from Jonesville killed Marisha at the YMCA, took her body to a bridge over the Broad River in Lockhart and dumped it there. The couple then drove her car several miles away and set it on fire, police said.

Manning Jeter said he tried to call his daughter’s cell phone several times after she did not return from McDonald’s but never reached her.

Police asked anyone with information in this case to call the Union Public Safety Department immediately.
