Deputies said a woman was attacked while she was sleeping inside her home on Thursday afternoon and that they are still looking for the man responsible.

The incident happened at 13043 Old White Horse Road around 2 p.m.

The 31-year-old woman said that she was asleep on the couch when she awoke to find a man on top of her trying to rape her. The woman said she fought with the man and he hit her on the head with a picture frame. Eventually, the man ran out the back door of the home.

“She was cut up and her face was cut up,” said Ann Freeman, one of the victim’s family members. “She was walking out to the ambulance and was pretty upset that her face was cut up.”

Deputies said they set up a perimeter while they searched for the burglar. They used their K-9 team and helicopter to locate the man. After an hour of searching, they were not able to find him.

Two schools that were nearby, Heritage Elementary and Northwest Middle, were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies described the man as white, between 35 and 40 years old, 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 230 pounds. He was wearing black pants and a black T-shirt. He also had a scar on his left cheek.

Deputies asked anyone with information on this case to call Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
