Deputies are still searching for a killer and at the same time the victim’s mother grieves for her daughter.

The body of 8-year-old Dymia Woody was found in a closet inside a vacant home at 104 Carly Drive just before midnight Tuesday.

The discovery was made by a search dog that was helping locate the girl after her mother reported her missing around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said the dog found an open door on the vacant mobile home, went inside and found Woody’s body inside a closet.

The coroner’s office said the girl died from asphyxiation because of a breathing obstruction. They said there were also visible signs of sexual assault on Woody’s body. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, deputies have not made an arrest in the case.

Mother Mourns Her Daughter

Outside the Woody’s home on Tuesday there was crying and praying. Inside the home, a mother and father tried to talk about losing one of the most precious things in the world to them, their 8-year-old daughter.

“I just miss her,” said Renee Woody, Dymia’s mother. “I still look in that door and it just seems like she’s going to come running in.”

Tears ran down Woody’s face as she sobbed heavily and talked about her daughter’s death.

“I know I can’t bring her back, but I just want answers,” Woody said. “I just want to know why.”

Woody said Dymia was the little girl she and her husband David always wanted. She said Dymia was also a special wish from her dying mother who wanted to hold a granddaughter before her death.

“She got to hold my daughter and I know that’s where my daughter is now, with my momma,” said Woody.

Woody said her home will be quiet now, without Dymia’s laugh.

“Well, now I won’t have that,” Woody said.
