Deputies arrested a Henderson County teacher after they said he solicited sex from someone he thought was a minor.

Deputies said David Pace, an electronics teacher at North Henderson High School, would go online after school hours and look for sex from who he thought were minors. In reality, Pace was chatting with undercover investigators.

Henderson County Schools Superintendent Stephen Page said he was shocked at the allegations.

“He is a good teacher and well liked,” Page said. “There was nothing that would indicate that there would be any type of problems to our knowledge. There was no criminal record.”

Buncombe County deputies said Pace was charged with soliciting sex from a minor. However, Pace was also charged with four counts of criminal solicitation of a minor in Greenville.

Greenville police said Pace used a web camera to solicit sexual favors from someone he thought was 13 years old.

Pace was still in jail as of Wednesday night. He is now on “non-paid” status with the school district. Page said that means he will not be able to teach for the time being.
