Deputies said a Greer man was charged in connection with 29 auto burglaries that happened during the first part of May.

Kevin Michael Anderson, 25, was arrested on July 2 and charged with 29 counts of auto breaking, 24 counts of petit larceny and five counts of grand larceny.

Deputies said Anderson was responsible for numerous auto break-ins in the Taylors and Lake Cunningham area. They said in many of the cases the vehicles were left unlocks and valuables were in plain sight.

Anderson was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on a $188,000 bond.

Deputies urged residents to take precautions to safeguard their belongings inside their cars. They said thieves typically walk through an area looking for unlocked vehicles. They said many people leave purses, wallets, computers and electronics in the open, which encourages the thieves to steal them.

Deputies said residents should lock their vehicles anytime they are unattended and put valuables in a locked trunk or glove box.
