Worshipers at a Clemson church were trying to figure out where they will hold services after a fire destroyed their church on Tuesday morning.

The fire happened at the Center of Faith Community Church on Gantt Street around 6 a.m.

The walls of the brick building are the only thing left standing on the ground floor of the church. The building also has a basement that was not severely damaged.

Members of the congregation gathered at the church after hearing about the fire. They said they have not been able to salvage anything from their sanctuary.

Alex Bell, youth pastor at the church, said he was shocked to hear about the fire. However, he said losing the building does not mean he will lose his faith.

“We are a close-knit congregation and we really are at a loss for words right now,” Bell said. “We know there is a brighter day and everything will work out for the good.”

Worshipers said the building dates back to the 1940s, but the Center of Faith has only been a congregation there for about 12 years.

Bell said the church was still looking for a place to hold services.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation. However, firefighters said they do not believe it is arson.
