Prosecutors said they want a 14-year-old boy charged as an adult in the death, kidnapping and rape of an 8-year-old girl earlier this month.

Sam Young is charged with murder, kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the death of Dymia Woody. Her body was found in an empty home in Greenville County on July 1.

On Tuesday, 13th Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail announced that he filed a motion requesting that Family Court waive its jurisdiction over the case and move it to General Sessions Court. He said if the waiver is granted, Young would be tried as an adult.

“The murder, kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct against an 8-year-old victim requires a more severe response than would be available in the Family Court,” Ariail said.

Ariail said there would be a hearing to decide if the move will be granted. A date for the hearing had not been set.
