Animal control officers in Henderson County said they seized 44 animals from a home in Flat Rock on Tuesday.

Officers said they received several complaints about a strong odor and barking dogs at a home on Greenville Highway.

Officers said 29 dogs and 15 cats were taken from the 1,150-square-foot home. Four of the dogs were taken to a veterinarian for treatment. The remainder of the animals were taken to the Henderson County Animal Services Center.

The homeowner received warnings to comply with animal control laws after the initial complaints in January, officers said.

“We were very concerned about the barking dogs, cleanliness of the home and the health of the animals,” said Lt. Ben McKay of Henderson County Sheriff’s Department Animal Enforcement.

There was no immediate word on the future of the animals taken from the home.
