ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- A building was evacuated early Wednesday afternoon after a contractor ruptured a gas line, firefighters said.A representative of Asheville Fire and Rescue said a contractor was working on an addition to the Grove Park Inn and Spa when he hit a 4-inch gas line.Firefighters said the Sammons Wing of the building and the spa were evacuated. They said vehicles were not allowed to enter or exit a nearby parking garage, either. They said grills in the inn’s restaurant were also shut down.
Gas company crews were called to the hotel to shut down the gas service and repair the line.
