GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Drivers in one part of Cherokee County were forced to find an alternate route around a bridge that collapsed on Wednesday.County officials said one lane of a bridge on Old Chester Road near Colonial and Beech streets collapsed on Wednesday morning.The bridge is 80 feet long and stretches across Kings Creek near the Cherokee County – York County line.Officials said heavy rain flowing into the creek may have put an unusually high amount of stress on the bridge’s support beams.
State transportation officials said they are assessing the damage to determine how best to repair it.
