SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Jury selection begins Monday in Spartanburg County in two trials connected to the 2007 deaths of John Costanza and Kelly Kimbrell.Demario Mack, Christopher Foster and Rico Washington are charged with murder in the November beating death of Costanza.Prosecutors said the trio beat Costanza to death after he decided not to join a gang.Gregory Scott, who prosecutors said was the ring leader of the gang, was convicted of murder and lynching in July.In a separate case, the trial of a teen charged in the 2007 shooting death of a fellow student begins on Monday, as well.Prosecutors said 16-year-old Alex Cannon skipped school with 17-year-old Kelly Kimbrell and some other teenagers last October. The other teens told investigators that Cannon was playing with his father’s gun when a shot was fired that hit Kimbrell in the chest, killing her.Prosecutors said Cannon shot Kimbrell on purpose; however, Cannon said the shooting was an accident. Both Kimbrell and Cannon were students at Boiling Springs High School.
