CARLISLE, S.C. -- Union County Sheriff David Taylor said his office has signed 34 warrants in connection with Friday night’s shootout in the town of Carlisle.Taylor said the shooting happened on a basketball court near the intersection of Sartor Avenue and Cambridge Street. According to Taylor, a rivalry between two gangs, one from Union and one from Carlisle, led to the shootout.“This group of individuals within the city (Union) they went down there to Carlisle, with specifically in mind, to deal with the situation -- to have a confrontation,” said Taylor. “They went around the city of Union in a van, saying, 'We going to Carlisle. We got something to do down there.'”Taylor told FOX Carolina News the group from Union pulled up the basketball court around 8 p.m. Friday in a white van. He said the group from the city and the group from Carlisle got into a fight and that gunfire was exchanged between the two groups. No one was injured, Taylor said.Deputies were on scene within twelve minutes of the 911 call reporting shots fired. Witnesses said they saw a van and a Ford Explorer leaving the scene.“The community got involved. The community said, 'Yeah, that vehicle was involved. This vehicle was involved,'” said Sheriff Taylor. Both vehicles were pulled over a short time later along Highway 215.Taylor said 26 people were arrested on Friday night, and said more warrants were signed Monday on other individuals involved in the shootout.Taylor said the two groups have a past and said this shooting stemmed from an incident at Union Counties’ alternative school. He said he believes this turf war is far from over.“If not in a couple weeks, a month, two months -- we’ll be dealing with it again,” Taylor said.
