Cherokee County Girl Shot In Face

Victim Shot With .45-Caliber Handgun

Cherokee County officials responded to a shooting at a home on Potter Road Friday evening.

According to sheriff's deputies, a girl was shot in the face with a .45-caliber handgun while she and another child were playing with the gun.

Medical responders treated the girl at the scene before she was airlifted to a local hospital.

A Cherokee County official said the girl was alert when first responders arrived at the home.

Investigators said the shooting appears accidental, but it is still under investigation.
