Fire investigators said a man set his own home on fire after a domestic problem with his wife.

Dispatchers in Alexander County told WSOC-TV the homeowner called to report the fire at about 4 a.m. Saturday, saying he set the fire himself.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they said the home was completely engulfed in flames and the homeowner was waiting outside.

The Bethlehem fire chief, Shannon Lowrance, said the man had taken all of his personal property out of the home, put it in his car and then set the house on fire.

Lowrance told WSOC-TV that the man set the log home on fire because of some type of domestic problem with his wife.

The log home was valued at more than $100,000. Investigators said the home was a complete loss.

When Faherty arrived at the scene, he sad two dozen firefighters were working to put out the flames and that the home’s roof had collapsed.

Investigators have not identified the man or said what charges he may face.
