Police said Monday that the woman who was killed in a double shooting at the Upstate Pain Management and Surgery Center in Seneca on Saturday was pregnant.

Karla M. Benson, 29, of Newry, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said that Benson was shot once in the shoulder and once in the back of the head. Addis also told police that Benson was 24 weeks pregnant when she died.

The second victim, 52-year-old James Baskerville, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, police said. The man was in critical condition on Monday.

Seneca Police Chief John Covington said a 911 call about the shooting came in just before 3 p.m. Saturday. Covington said the doctor who owns the business discovered the two shooting victims.

Dr. Marion McMillan of Upstate Pain Management and Surgery Center said he went to his office to catch up on some work Saturday afternoon. McMillan said he had picked up some groceries for the office and when he walked into the kitchen of the clinic he discovered a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

McMillan said he also found a gun on a nearby table. McMillan said he grabbed the gun because the man was still conscious and he didn't know what was going on. He said he then ran outside his clinic and called 911.

Covington said that when his officers arrived they located Benson in a separate room and a second gun.

McMillan said he did not know Benson but said that Baskerville has been cleaning his office for the past eight years. He also told FOX Carolina News that Baskerville and Benson knew each other, but said he wasn't exactly sure about the relationship between the two.

Covington said two guns were found inside the building. He said the case is being investigated as a murder-attempted suicide.

So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
