Group Of 4 Beat, Kick Spartanburg Man

Group Used Feet, Hands, Metal Pipe In Attack, Deputies Say

Deputies said that a group of four people used their feet, hands and a metal pipe to attack a Spartanburg man on Friday night.

The alleged attack happened at 57 Palm Tree Drive at 6 p.m.

Deputies said they received a call about an assault in progress at the home. They said that when they arrived they found 23-year-old Gerald Swigert has been injured.

Swigert told deputies that a group of four people showed up at his house and started kicking and punching him. He said that one of the men pulled out a pipe and started hitting him with it.

Investigators said that the group ran away when Swigert’s girlfriend told them that the police were coming.

Swigert was treated for his injuries at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Jose Resindez, 17, of Spartanburg, 18-year-old Christopher Preece, of Una, 34-year-old Gail Tucker, of Una, and 21-year-old Matthew Williamson were each charged with second-degree lynching.

All four have been released on a $5,000 bond.
