Investigators said that a man drowned on Thursday when he jumped into the Pacolet River.

The drowning happened off Dewberry Road near Highway 110.

Investigators said that 21-year-old Allen Davis Jr. was with a group of friends who decided to swim in the river. They said that Davis, who was not able to swim, jumped into the water without realizing how deep it was. They said Davis went underwater and did not resurface.

Family and friends of the man gathered at the scene on Thursday afternoon to mourn Davis.

Bambi Davis, Davis' cousin, said that the family is devastated and is asking for prayers.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said an autopsy has determined the cause of death to be drowning.
