The Associated Press is reporting that South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said he has “crossed lines” with women other than his mistress.

During an interview with the news agency, the Republican governor admitted to meeting his Argentine mistress on more occasions than he admitted last week.

In the lengthy, emotional interview with The AP, Sanford described seven meetings with the woman, including their first in 2001. He said there have been five over a 12-month period, including two multi-night stays with her in New York.

It was the first disclosure of any get-togethers with her in the United States and contradicted a public confession last week during which he admitted to a total of four encounters in the past year.

Sanford also admitted during the interview that he has “crossed lines” with other women, but has never had sex with them.

The governor called Maria Chapur, an Argentine woman who admitted to a relationship with him this week, his soul mate. He said that he will try to fall back in love with his wife.

SC Attorney General Requests SLED Investigation Of Sanford's Travels

South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster said Tuesday that he has requested an investigation into Sanford's travels in light of his disclosure of other rendezvous with his Argentine mistress.

"I have requested that SLED conduct a preliminary review of all of Gov. Sanford's travel records," McMaster said in a statement, "to determine if any laws have been broken or any state funds misused."

Sanford said in a statement that he is pleased that the State Law Enforcement Division will look into this matter.

"There's been a lot of speculation and innuendo on whether or not public moneys were used to advance my admitted unfaithfulness," Sanford said.

Sanford said that no public money was ever used in connection with is liaisons with his mistress.

The governor previously announced he would reimburse the state for money spent during a government trip to Brazil and Argentina in June 2008.
