The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office said that a man died after he was shocked by a deputy’s Taser on Wednesday afternoon.

Marcia Clark with the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office said that 53-year-old Ernest Ridlehuber was reported missing by his family around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Clark said that authorities and family members spent much of Wednesday searching for Ridlehuber. She said he was found at a friend’s house on Old Laurens Road on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Clark, when family members went inside the home to get Ridlehuber he became violent with them and they called deputies. She said that when deputies arrived Ridlehuber was still combative and an officer used his Taser on Ridlehuber.

Ridlehuber collapsed after the shock and later died, Clark said.

"He was a very big man, and if he didn't want to do something he wasn't going to do it," said Linda Ridlehuber, Ernest Ridlehuber's sister. "It's just hard for me, at this point, to even believe it's happened. It's like a bad dream."

Clark said that she is not sure what caused Ridlehuber’s death and that an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday in Anderson County.
