COWPENS, S.C. -- School officials said that an Upstate student took an unloaded gun and some bullets to school last week.Police said that a Cowpens Elementary School student was charged with illegal possession of a gun after officials found one in his book bag on Aug. 27. The student's name was not released.According to a letter about the incident that was sent home to parents, the student is no longer enrolled at the school. The letter said that officials do not believe the gun was loaded at school.Officials said they were alerted by another student who had seen the gun. The letter said that the principal and a Cowpens police officer went to the child's home after being told about the weapon and found the gun in the boy's book bag.A police report stated that the boy took the gun from the glove box of his mother's car.
