Authorities said that a man was killed when a mobile home near Gluck in Anderson County collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.

The collapse happened at 861 Travis Road at about noon.

According to Eddie Merritt, he and his brother-in-law, 53-year-old Nathan Teasely, of Hartwell, Ga., had been demolishing the mobile home for salvage since Thursday. He said that on Tuesday the home collapsed while the pair were still inside.

Merritt said that he was able to pull himself out of the wreckage and he could hear Teasely screaming for help. He said that he and the property owner, Larry Burdette, tried to free Teasely, but were unsuccessful.

Rescue workers said that by the time they arrived, Teasely was dead.

Crews worked for nearly two hours to pull Teasely from the collapsed home. They were able to recover his body at about 2 p.m.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said that Teasely’s death has been ruled an accident, but that the case is still under investigation.
