Sheriff: $500K Of Stolen Equipment Recovered
Thefts Stretch Across 4 Counties, Sheriff Says

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Thursday that deputies recovered about $500,000 worth of equipment that has been stolen across four counties in both North and South Carolina.Wright said that the thefts have been happening over the past few months in Polk and Rutherford counties in North Carolina and Cherokee and Spartanburg counties in South Carolina."They're doing a spot and steal," Wright said. "If somebody needs or wants a particular item, they'll spot and steal it within a day or two. They're very efficient at what they do."The equipment recovered includes boats and excavation equipment, four-wheelers and farm equipment, Wright said.So far, Jerry Ledford has been charged in connection with the thefts in Polk County. Deputies said they are looking for other people in the case.
