Firefighters said that a teen suffered burns over part of his body during a fire at a Greenville County home on Monday.

The fire happened at a home at 503 Piedmont Park Road near the Wade Hampton community just before 3 a.m.

Firefighters said the blaze started in the garage of the home, but they were able to stop it before it reached the house. They said a car near the garage was destroyed.

Rescue crews said that a 16-year-old inside the garage suffered burns to about 40 percent of his body. They said the teen was rushed to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment.

Investigators said that the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
