Deputies said that a Spartanburg County deputy shot and injured a man early Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at 335 Harrell Drive just before 1 p.m.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said that Deputy Brandon Bentley was responding to a call about a neighbor dispute. He said that when Bentley arrived he began talking to the neighbors when one of them came at him with an object and shouted, "I'm going to kill you!" He said that Bentley drew his weapon and fired one shot, wounding the man in the upper body.

Wright said that Bentley rendered first aid until an ambulance arrived. He said that the man, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital, where he was expected to recover. He said that Bentley was not injured.

Bentley has been with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office for a couple of years and has had no incidents, Wright said.

Wright said that Bentley will be placed on leave during an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division, which is normal procedure.
