Police Investigate Shooting In West Asheville

Authorities: Man Shot Outside Pisgah View Apartments

POSTED: 12:10 pm EST November 7, 2009

The Asheville Police Department said it is investigating an early-morning shooting that sent one person to an area hospital Saturday.

The APD said West District officers were dispatched to the Pisgah View apartments at about 2:40 a.m. after a man was reported shot in front of the building 27 next to his car.

Investigators said the victim suffered three gunshot wounds on the left side of his body. He was transported to Mission Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition

Police said he has not yet been positively identified, but is believed to be a Georgia resident.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim, a friend of the victim, and the possible gunmen had been fighting earlier in the evening at the Happy Days club on Patton Avenue, and that all of the people had been told to leave the premises.

Police said the victim later drove two women to Pisgah View, where he again encountered the culprits.

Witnesses told police that the victim was pulled from the car, assaulted and shot.

Authorities said it appears that there were three men involved in the assault and shooting.

Detectives are conducting multiple interviews in the case and said further details would be released pending their findings.
