ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Asheville firefighters said that an apartment building was heavily damaged by an explosion and fire on Monday morning.The explosion happened at the Hillcrest Apartments located at 100 Atkinson St. at 11:23 a.m.Firefighters said that a maintenance worker was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.Kelly Webb, of the Asheville Fire Department, originally said that investigators thought that a methamphetamine lab may have been the cause of the explosion, but she said there was no evidence found that supports that theory.The American Red Cross was assisting families that have been displaced by the fire.Stay with FOX Carolina and foxcarolina.com for the latest information.
