Child Broke Away From Mother, Police Say

Police said that a child broke away from his mother while crossing the street on Wednesday morning and was hit and killed by a passing car.

The crash happened near the intersection of Hendersonville Road and Jeffress Avenue at 6:35 a.m.

Police said that the 4-year-old was crossing the street with his mother as they were trying to catch a bus. They said that the child pulled away from his mother's hand and ran into oncoming traffic.

Investigators said that the responding officer performed CPR on the child, but the child did not respond.

Police said that it was raining at the time of the crash. They said the child was also wearing dark clothing.
