Authorities are investigating the Honea Path rescue squad after some unusual charges appeared on its credit card statement.

Honea Path Police Chief David Kind said that the investigation started on Nov. 3 after someone bought the bills to his attention.

King said that the Capital One Visa card that is registered to the squad's former chief was used to pay for memberships to dating Web sites, restaurants, travel charges and currency exchanges. He said that he does not believe the former chief is involved in the alleged misuse of the card.

Investigators said that $80 was paid to the dating Web site eharmony.com. They said that $35 was also paid to another dating Web site, match.com, and that $50 was paid to a third dating Web site, singlesnet.com.

King said that his department is trying to figure out who ran up the unexpected charges.

The Honea Path rescue squad received $25,000 a month from Anderson County as part of its service contract with the county. A special commission recommended on Thursday night that the station's funding be cut. That decision is now up to the Anderson County Council.

A special meeting to discuss that decision is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at the historic courthouse and is open to the public.
