Greenville Man Arrested After 3-Hour Manhunt

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A Greenville man was arrested a nearly three-hour-long manhunt on Monday morning, Greenville County deputies said.Deputies said that they were trying to serve arrest warrants to 28-year-old Charles Proffitt Jr. at the Garden Spot located at 3 Altamot Road at about 8 a.m. They said when deputies arrived at the location, Proffitt fled on foot and was then hit by a passing motorist. They said that Proffitt continued running away after he was hit by the car.Proffitt was located at about 11:15 a.m. in a wooded area near the intersection of Cone Street and State Park Road.Deputies said that Proffitt was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital and treated for his injuries.Proffitt was charged with shoplifting and possession of a stolen vehicle.The search for Proffitt prompted officials to briefly lock down two nearby schools, Paris Elementary ans Sevier Middle.
