Officials said that shots were fired at Spartanburg County deputies during a car chase on Tuesday morning.

Tony Ivey, the public information officer for the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, said that a deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle along Hayne Street in Una. He said that the deputy ran the license plate and he found out that the car was reported stolen. He said that when the deputy tried to pull over the car, the driver, 20-year-old Travis Jones, sped away.

Ivey said that Jones stopped the car on Brawley Street in Spartanburg and fired at least one shot at the closest deputy when he jumped out of the car. He said that deputies returned fire.

Deputies pursued Jones on foot for about 1½ blocks, where the man shot at deputies again, Ivey said. He said that Jones threw down his gun after it jammed while trying to fire more shots at deputies and then was arrested.

No one was injured in the chase or shooting, Ivey said.

Ivey said that charges against Jones are pending.
