Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that a person was killed in a crash near Townville on Monday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of Smith Point Road and Highway 24 just before 11 p.m.

Troopers said that 25-year-old Brandon Rhodes, of Townville, was headed home from work when he lost control of his car. The car slammed into several trees two houses up from his own. They said that the impact was so great that it dislodged the vehicle's engine and left it in the middle of the road.

The Anderson County Coroner's Office said that Rhodes was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

Investigators said that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
