Greenville County deputies said Saturday that they arrested a former deputy while responding to a disturbance call in Simpsonville.

Officials arrived at 114 Morell Drive and spoke with a woman who claimed a she and man who was visiting her had thrown items at her, struck her, and had pointed a pistol at her during an argument.

Two deputies were trying to separate the woman and the man, identified by the officials as 43-year-old Eric McKaig, and said McKaig pushed and kicked deputies in the process.

According to Greenville County Sheriff's Office, McKaig had been assigned a deputy with the sheriff's office but was terminated from that position after the disturbance call was received. Previously, McKaig had been a deputy in the Judicial Services Division, authorities said.

McKaig was charged with one count of pointing and presenting a firearm, one count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest, according to the sheriff's office. He has been placed in the Greenville County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
