Police said that a standoff at a Simpsonville home ended around noon with the death of the man who prompted it.

The standoff was at a home on Springleaf Court and started at about 7 a.m.

Simpsonville Assistant Police Chief Colleen O'Neal said that a call came in to emergency workers about a domestic disturbance at the home. She said that the man involved in the incident left the scene before police responded. She said that responding officers spotted the man's car and followed it back to the home.

O'Neal said that the man jumped out of the car and ran inside the home. They said he held two people inside the home for less than an hour, but he refused to come outside. They said that they believe the man was armed.

Greenville County's SWAT team and negotiators were at the scene, trying to get the man to surrender to authorities, police said. They said that just before noon the man was found dead inside the home. They said it appears he shot himself.

Neither the man's name nor the address of the home were released.
