Forecasters said that the mountains will see more snow on Tuesday, while the Upstate will get more rain, followed by high winds.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Buncombe, northern Jackson, Swain, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Meteorologists said that locations in the warned area, including Asheville, will see the precipitation begin as snow beginning late Monday night. They said that the snow will transition to a mix of snow, sleet and rain by lunch time on Tuesday. They said that temps will begin to fall by Tuesday afternoon, changing the wintry mix to all snow, with snowfall rates increasing as well. They said that snowfall accumulations of 4-6 inches are possible.

The weather service also issued a winter weather advisory for Graham, Macon, southern Jackson, Transylvania, Henderson, Polk, Rutherford and McDowell counties in North Carolina and the northern part of Oconee, Pickens and Greenville counties from 6 a.m. Tuesday until midnight Wednesday.

Forecasters said that locations in the advised area could see accumulations of snow and sleet in the 1- to-2-inch range. They said that light accumulations are expected near the Blue Ridge.

The weather service also issued a high wind watch for the southern mountain counties, northern Upstate counties and all of northeast Georgia from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night.

Forecasters said that location in the watch area, including Hendersonville, Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg and Toccoa, could see winds of 30-40 mph on Wednesday. They said that winds could gust to as high as 60 mph on Wednesday afternoon. They said that the high winds in combination with the wet soil and cool temperatures could cause significant damage to trees and power lines.
