The body of 8-year-old Dymia Woody was found in a vacant mobile home in July 2008 after her mother had reported her missing the night before.

The coroner’s office has said that Woody died from asphyxiation because of a breathing obstruction, and that there were visible signs of sexual assault on her body.

Investigators charged then 14-year-old Sam Young, who lived in the neighborhood, with murder, criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping in connection with Woody’s death. They said the decision to arrest the boy was made based on DNA tests.

In August 2009, a judge ruled that jurisdiction for the now 16-year-old Young be transferred to general sessions court instead of family court.

Prosecutors said that the ruling means that Young will be tried as an adult rather than a juvenile, which he had been charged as until Friday.

Marcia Barker, from the 13th Circuit Solicitor's Office, said that Young will be in court to plead, but did not say to what he will plead.
