Highlands Student Honored For Her Google Doodle
Design Picked As Part Of 40 Nationwide Finalists

HIGHLANDS, N.C. -- A western North Carolina student has been picked as a finalist in the nationwide Doodle 4 Google contest.The search-engine giant stopped by the Highlands School on Tuesday to showcase the talents of 16-year-old Bevan Schiffli.More than 30,000 students entered the contest, but only 40 were picked as finalists. The amateur artists had to design a Google logo using the theme, "If I could do anything, I would..."Schiffli's design, which she calls "Branch Out," features branches of trees that wind together to form the Google logo.The amateur artist said that she will take her dad to Google's awards ceremony in New York, where the winner of the contest will be announced.If Schiffli's design wins, she will get a $15,000 college scholarship and her school will receive thousands of dollars to build a computer lab.
