GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Some players on the Greenville Force, an indoor football team, said Tuesday that they have not been paid in several weeks."Basically I've been up here for 12 weeks and all I can really say I can account for is $250," said Isaac West, a player with the Force.West said that he jumped at the opportunity to play football again in Greenville, but said things have not turned out the way he thought they would."There are times when I can't even put gas in my car," West said. "I can't even go to the store and buy something to eat and get some food, but we're supposed to be getting paid every week."West said that those who manage the team are not keeping up their end of the contract. He said that he is owed money for four games."The promises that were made to us haven't come through," said Willie Idlette, another Greenville Force player. "We signed a contract and everything is laid out -- the pay, the compensation, the hours. Everything we thought would be needed to run a professional organization."Idlette said not only does it hurt the team, it also hurts the fans."We all love playing football and we appreciate everyone who comes out and supports us," Idlette said. However, on Tuesday, Tony Wells, the head coach and owner of the Greenville Force, said that is not the case. He said that he inherited the team, which was already in financial trouble, back in December. He also admits that he is behind on a couple of paychecks because an investor backed out of a deal."I told all the players straight out, you know, things aren't going to happen that way," Wells said. "It's going to be a struggle this year. They all agreed to play on."Wells said that players get paid for each game they play, not how long they have been in the area. He also admits that early on, some checks bounced, but he said he has been trying to catch up."We've paid them two checks in a row, a third check was going to be this week, and we were catching up on some previous checks also," Wells said. The owner said that several players, decided not to play in Monday's game in Louisiana and he had to find a replacement team. He said this put the team in jeopardy and they could have received a fine.
