The Delaware National Guard said state Attorney General Beau Biden's guard unit will be deployed to Iraq on Oct. 3 and will be overseas for about a year.

Biden is a captain and a military lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps, and the son of U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, a potential vice presidential running mate for Sen. Barack Obama.

Sen. Biden, however, told reporters Tuesday he's "not the guy."

Others believed to be on Obama's short list include Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, Indiana U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Joe Biden has been in the Senate since 1972, when he was elected at the age of 29 years old. He is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

U.S. Marine Jimmy McCain, son of Obama's Republican rival, John McCain, returned from a tour of duty in Iraq in February.
