COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina's first lady has filed for divorce six months after her husband publicly confessed an affair with an Argentine woman.Also:

Do you agree?First lady Jenny Sanford originally said over the summer she was willing to reconcile with two-term Republican Gov. Mark Sanford even after publication of his e-mail exchanges with his lover. He also admitted "crossing the line" with other women in an AP interview.Jenny Sanford had called her husband's behavior "inexcusable," but said she was willing to give him another chance. More recently she described them as separated."This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation," said Jenny Sanford in a statement released on Friday. "Yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family."On Thursday, the governor said he still wanted to reconcile with his wife, despite her recent interview with Barbara Walters that aired nationally on Wednesday night. In the interview, Jenny Sanford said that she found out about her husband's affair in January."While it is not the course I would have hoped for, or would choose, I want to take full responsibility for the moral failure that led us to this tragic point," Gov. Sanford said in a statement. "Jenny is a great person, and has been a remarkable wife, mother and First Lady."The couple's four boys and Jenny Sanford have been living at the Sanfords' beachfront home on Sullivans Island while the governor has remained in the state capital of Columbia, occasionally visiting his family."Please know the boys and I are doing well and are blessed with the incredible support of friends and family bolstered by our faith and the unfailing love of our God above," the first lady said.Also this week, lawmakers voted down a resolution to impeach the governor over the fallout after his admission of an affair. Instead, the panel voted to censure the two-term Republican.Gov. Sanford's term ends in 2011.
